Crucial Star – 막내 아들 (The Youngest Son) – Lyrics and Review

Hmmm a solid release from Crucial. His latest album Midnight was very good so I was excited when he first teased this track. The first ten seconds before the beat comes in remind me of Disclosure by Latch. One of Crucial’s strongest points as an artist is that his deep voice is always just as good in the chorus as it is in his verses. His voice fits the music in this track really well. The lyrics are really touching as he shares a desire to give back to his mom and dad after going out on his own to pursue music. Crucial Star is one of my favorite rappers and I’m sure his parents are very proud of who he’s become as an artist. You can listen to it below (lyrics are further down):

Shout out to Pop!Gasa for the lyrics orignally posted here:

I remember when I was young
I was a natural mischief
I took my school bag and went to the PC Cafe
Being taught games until dark
My mom said then how about a tutor?
Maybe if someone’s next to you, it might be better
After hearing that my tutor is going to be a girl
I said yes but she was ugly so I quit
Studying is no fun
Art is no fun
Scribbling is fun
But sketches are no fun
My dad never let go of his hopes for me
My mom always supported me whatever I did
This good for nothing son did achieve something in the end
But when I look back, I am so indebted

Your youngest son
Left town to do something
It’s been over a year since I lived alone
You always believed in me
I received love that was like the universe
Now I need to return it
Although it will not be enough

But I still worked pretty hard
Those who know will know how my rap is
Kids, you leave bad comments on the Internet so easily
In order to overturn those, I take headache pills
Now I get at least 4 stars by critics
I get cheered by hundreds at my shows
Even if a glider was the biggest award I got
My mom texted that she was proud of me
That was more valuable than anything else
Just those few words from you
Makes strength shoot out of me
I’ll go home today
When I eat home cooked meals, it fills up my soul
Now I can be strong for at least a month
Now I need to go back to work
Don’t worry, now I know what I need to know

Your youngest son
Left town to do something
It’s been over a year since I lived alone
You always believed in me
I received love that was like the universe
Now I need to return it
Although it will not be enough

I don’t really know
What it means for success
But I’ll try now
Mom, please don’t be sick
Dad, you can see
If your son is doing well
Even if I’m not doing well
Never lose your faith in me

cuz i’m your son
